せっしょう【殺生】

1 〔殺すこと〕 killing; destruction of life; the taking of life; butchery; 〔鳥･魚の〕 shooting and fishing.

～する destroy [take] life; kill 《an animal》.

●みだりに殺生するでないぞ. Don't take life (for no reason). | It's wrong to kill.

●無益な殺生 wanton destruction of life; useless butchery.

●無益な殺生をする kill 《animals》 wantonly [needlessly, without any reason].

2 〔残酷〕 ～な cruel; heartless.

●殺生な目にあわせる treat sb cruelly; be cruel 《to…》; expose sb to cruelty.

●それはあまりに殺生だ[そんな殺生な]. That's too cruel.
